Founded in 1968 Midea started modestly, to become one of the world’s leaders in the home appliance industry today. Today, Midea products improve the lives of billions of people worldwide on a daily basis.
1968
Founded in 1968 by Mr. He Xianglian in Beijiao City, Guangdong Province.
1980
In 1980, Midea began producing electric fans, marking its entry into the home appliance industry. Five years later, in 1985, the company established its Residential Air Conditioning (RAC) business unit.
1998
In 1998, Midea acquired the Macro-Toshiba compressor factory, marking its entry into the air conditioning compressor business. The following year, the company launched its Commercial Air Conditioning (CAC) business unit.
2001
In 2001, Midea expanded its product range by beginning the manufacture of ovens and microwave ovens, as well as VRF air conditioning systems, water heaters, and dishwashers. In 2004, through the acquisitions of Hefei Royalstar and Hualing Group, the company entered the refrigerator and washing machine market.
2010
In 2010, Midea was recognized as one of the 100 most environmentally friendly companies in China. By 2014, the company’s annual revenue had reached $23 billion. Midea’s global prominence was further confirmed when it entered the Forbes Global 500 in 2015 and the Fortune Global 500 in 2016.
2016
In 2016, Midea became the majority shareholder of the German robotics company KUKA, one of the world’s four leading firms in the sector, and also acquired the Italian air conditioning specialist CLIVET.
2023
In 2023, Midea generated over $53 billion in revenue, solidifying its position as one of the world’s leading manufacturers.
2024
In 2024, Midea was officially listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), becoming an A- and H-share company and further strengthening its international presence.
